He was born in Kefalonia.
He was appointed as a salaried specialist physician at the Urology Clinic of the University of Athens to obtain the specialty of Urologist, where he remained until 1989, when he received the title of his specialty.
In 1989 he was awarded a Doctor of the Medical School of the University of Athens with an "excellent" performance and was elected a Lecturer in Urology at the Department of Medicine of the University of Crete
In 1990, he retrained at the Urology Clinic of the "Agia Sophia" Children's Hospital.
In the same year he was appointed to the position of Lecturer at the Department of Medicine of the University of Crete dealing from then until November 2003 with the education of students, research and the clinical work of the Urology Clinic at the University General Hospital of Heraklion.
In 1993 and for one year he retrained at the Urology Clinic of the Long Island Jewish Medical Center, USA, with the subject of Genitourinary Oncology, Endourology and Laparoscopic Urology, with parallel employment in the clinic's research laboratory and the subject of the study of the Wilms' Tumor gene .
In July 1995 he was elected (by popular vote) Assistant Professor of Urology at the Department of Medicine of the University of Crete.
In March 1996 he retrained in newer surgical techniques at the Urology Clinic in Denver Colorado USA.
In 1998 he was appointed to the position of Assistant Professor of the Department of Medicine at the University of Crete.
From October 2001, he took over the Direction of the Urology Clinic of Pa.G.NI.H. after unanimous decision of the Surgery University Department.
In July 2002 he was elected (by popular vote) Associate Professor of Urology at the Medical Department of the University of Crete.
In March 2006, he was certified in the use of Lasers in Urology by attending a GreenLight PV prostatectomy seminar at King's College Workshop, London.
He resigned from the above position and the Directorate of the Urology Clinic of the University Hospital of Heraklion in November 2003 to take over the Directorate of the Urology Clinic of Asklipieio Voula.
Since November 2003, when he took over the Urology Clinic, the following changes have taken place.
In these 7 years, the Department managed to offer full specialization in Urology today and the waiting list for specialization has reached at least 4 years.
For about 5 years, the clinic has been fully integrated into the General on-call programs of the Hospital.
Today, the clinic performs the entire range of modern urological procedures and is considered one of the best equipped Urology clinics in the basin.
New units created in the last 7 years in our Department:
• Endoscopy unit at outpatient clinic level
• Urodynamic Studies Unit
• Ultrasound unit for transrectal prostate biopsies and percutaneous kidney punctures that receives referrals for treatment from almost all hospitals in Piraeus and several in Athens.
• Laser treatment unit (Greenlight-Holmium) (prostate-lithiasis), which few Hospitals in Attica have
. Application of the new TURIS technique for removal-sublimation of the hyperplasia of the prostate gland
• Extracorporeal Lithotripsy Unit.
During his long academic and hospital career, he lectured to medical students, interns and other health professions.
He was a member of three-member, seven-member Advisory Committees and a supervising professor in the preparation of doctoral theses.
During his tenure both at the Urology Clinic of the University of Crete and Asklepiion, he participated in a large number of research protocols that resulted in the production of rich scientific knowledge that was published in reputable Greek and foreign language journals.
To his credit there are 70 full publications in official Greek and 64 full publications in Foreign Language Medical Journals (fifty (51) appear in journals that are in Pubmed), 56 published abstracts in foreign language journals, 17 full publications in proceedings of Greek Conferences, writing 3 chapters in a book (2 Greek, 1 foreign language), 119 announcements at international conferences abroad, 211 announcements at Greek conferences and 21 scientific films (videos).
More than 450 bibliographic references (citations) have resulted from the above publications.
At the same time, he has participated in a large number of presentations, lectures at round tables and seminars (>100).
He has attended a very large number of Greek and International Medical Conferences and Seminars (over 250).
He is a member of the Hellenic Urological Society (1986), the European Urological Society (1993), the Endourological society (1994), a Corresponding Member of the American Urological Society (1997), the International Urological Society (Societe Internationale D' Urologie) (1997), of the International Society for Geriatric Nephrology and Urology (2005) and International member of the American Urological Association (2006).
